Village life thrives in Hook Norton pub
Mandy and Steve Jones are the new tenants of the Butchers Arms, in the pretty village of Kings Sutton, Northamptonshire.
The Butchers is an unspoilt village pub, where Hook Norton beers always feature on the bar, the food is simple and affordable, the parking is good and there is a beautiful garden - and Mandy and Steve are going to keep it that way.
Regular features on the menu include steak and Hooky pie, sausage and mash and a selection of sandwiches.
But if you want a bit of a treat there are filet or t-bone steaks, pork fillet or breast of duck.
Diners can eat in the bar though many prefer the light and airy dining area – Tuesday night is curry night, on Friday nights steaks feature and on Sunday roast dinners are served. And on Wednesday there is a credit crunch beating lunch for £4.75.
The 18th century village pub, which is in a conservation area, is a vibrant centre of community activity – the pub has two Aunt Sally teams – with the b-team showing a clean pair of heels to the a-team.
There is a dart board, a roaring fire for cooler days and barbecues are planned for the large comfortable garden.
Mandy and Steve are committed to country life and their pride is three working spaniels – Poppy, Willow and Bertie
“Two cockers and a sprocket - a springer and cocker cross,” said Steve, who is looking forward to taking them beating with local shoots.
Mandy said: “We are a village pub, which is at the heart of its community. We welcome customers not just from the village of Kings Sutton, but also those who travel from Banbury, Brackley and Towcester.”
Nearby runs the canal from Oxford to Banbury and Steve and Mandy are looking forward to offering hospitality to the village’s many visitors.
Situated just of the A44 the main Oxford to Banbury road, the short diversion will be well rewarded.
