Cry God for Hooky, England and St George

In Shakespeare’s play Henry V, the King famously invoked St George as England’s patron saint by crying “Cry God for Harry, England and St George” to soldiers preparing for the battle of Agincourt.

Drinkers can celebrate the life of St George with a glass of Hook Norton 303AD, the Oxfordshire brewer’s latest seasonal brew, which will be on sale in selected pubs throughout April

Hook Norton 303AD, at 4.0 per cent ABV, is made with English malt and English hops, which combine to make a very English beer.

303AD is brewed to celebrate the life of St George and its name marks the date of the martyr’s death in 303AD.

Dry and crisp with a hint of citrus and banana. Excellent with most foods it works well with many non meat dishes and is a superb compliment to Fish dishes.

Hook Norton Managing Director James Clarke said: “303AD is brewed with a small proportion of amber malt, and the innovative and environmentally friendly dwarf hop variety, First Gold.

We celebrate Saints of Ireland, Scotland and Wales – Patrick, Andrew and David – but now is the time we celebrate England’s patron Saint George.”

St George’s Day is on Thursday 23 April but you can drink the beer at anytime during the month.
